Based on the air pollution and haze control strategy, China's clean heating work in the northern region is an important reform measure of people's livelihood that attracts international attention. Due to considerable coverage of this reform, this topic mainly focuses on the role of the latest practice and experience of heating systems in advanced countries in promoting the process of clean heating in China. Therefore, themain content of this project includes: i) summarized and went through the obstacles in the cleaning and heating work in the northern region, based on which the related international practice cases was focused; ii) the development status of heating systems in a series of historical processes was systematically reviewed; iii) in terms of international practice, NAREE paid attention to the practice and application of renewable energy heating indeveloped rural areas, mainly including woody biomass energy combustion, biomass gasification, groundwater and heat pump; iv) focused on business modelsin international practice, including: public business model, private business model and hybrid model.

Services Provided by NAREE

Identification of obstacles to clean heating in northern China – NAREE conducted literature review, data collection, consultations with stakeholders, as well as identified the major challenges for promoting clean heating in northern region of China. According to the similarity analysis of technology and social and economic development, four countries or regions of the United States, Denmark, United Kingdom and Germany were selected. The main obstacles facing clean heating in China at the presentstage are closely connected, and the advantages of its system, policy, technology, funds and cases are sorted out to collect data and data in depth.

Experience learningin dealing with the development obstacle of heating in the world - For the four selected countries, the present situation and characteristics of heating in each country were analyzed, then NAREE focused on 6 dimensions, including driving factors of the energy structure, clean heating technology, energy-saving management policy, pricesubsidy mechanism, financing model, industry regulation and legislation, andother six dimensions. NAREE conducted in-depth analysis and summary of the advanced practices and experience, case studies of various countries.

Summary of the enlightenment from advanced countries in Europe and America to China's clean heating work - By comparing heating situations in north China and developed countries, NAREE put forward suggestions for further research on sustainable heating, suggested that clean heating work in north China area should focus on cross demand analysis when making the top-level design, improvement of upper law of heating and national tools, efforts to promote energy conservation assessment reform and measuring work, promotion on the reform of clean heating performance testing, as well as further distinction between urban and rural heating from the planning, techniques, capital and other dimensions.
